Renovation of art under the influence of modernity. N. concerns both the content (ideas, themes) and the form of art (language, compositional techniques, etc.). Genuine N. exists only as a development of traditions, in unity with them. The meaningless experiments of formalism are often presented by its representatives as N. However, formal trickery is not N. Cut off from traditions, rejecting them, N. becomes false, imaginary, and in fact does not renew, but destroys art. In the owls ballet N. is due to the principles of socialist realism, born of a new era in the development of mankind.
