1) An interval in the volume of nine steps; denoted by the number 9. There is a small nona (small 9), containing 61/2 tones, big nona (large 9) – 7 tones and increased nona (high 9) – 71/2 tones. Nona is a composite (exceeding the volume of an octave) interval and is considered as the sum of an octave and a second, or as a second through an octave.
