Dmitry Ilyich Liss |

Artistic director and chief conductor of the Ural Academic Philharmonic Orchestra. Honored Artist of Russia, laureate of the State Prize of Russia (2008), People’s Artist of Russia (2011).

Dmitry Liss is a representative of the Moscow conducting school, a graduate of Dmitry Kitayenko’s class at the Moscow Conservatory and his assistant with the Moscow Philharmonic in 1982-1983. In 1991-1995 he was the chief conductor of the Kuzbass Symphony Orchestra, in 1997-1999 – the Russian-American Youth Orchestra. Since 1995 he has been Artistic Director and Principal Conductor of the Ural Academic Philharmonic Orchestra. In 1999-2003 he collaborated with the Russian National Orchestra and took part in the ensemble’s audio recordings.

In recent years, Dmitry Liss has worked with the Grand Symphony Orchestra of Russia, the Orchester National de France, the Orchester National de France, the Orchester National de Lille, the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony, the symphony orchestras of Sweden, Switzerland, Portugal and Poland.

Having headed the Ural Philharmonic Orchestra in 1995, he brought one of the oldest symphonic ensembles in Russia to new creative heights. The total number of concerts of the Ural Academic Philharmonic Orchestra reaches 80-110 annually, which makes it the most “productive” orchestra in Russia.

Conducted by Dmitry Liss, the orchestra has toured in 10 countries of the world, performed over 20 concert tours, took part in prestigious international festivals, recorded about 20 discs commissioned by companies in Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Belgium, Japan, USA, France and Great Britain; The band’s latest recordings have been made in collaboration with Warner Classics International and Mirare.
