Cesare Valletti
Debut 1947 (Bari, Alfred part). At Covent Garden since 1950 (debut as Fenton in Falstaff). In the same year, in Rome, he sang in Rossini’s opera The Turk in Italy. He performed for a number of years at La Scala (parts of Nemorino, Almaviva). Among Valetti’s greatest successes is the role of Lindor in Rossini’s The Italian Girl in Algiers (recorded in 1955, conductor Giulini, EMI). In 1953-68 he performed in the USA (he made his debut in San Francisco as Werther). Until 1962 he sang at the Metropolitan Opera (parts of Don Ottavio in Don Giovanni, Ernesto in Don Pasquale, etc.). In 1968 he returned to Europe. From the recordings, we note the part of Carlo in the opera Linda di Chamouni by Donizetti (conductor Serafin, Philips).
