Polish singer (soprano). She made her debut in 1965 (Lodz, the title role in the opera Pebbles by Moniuszko). She performed in Warsaw, Prague, Leipzig. In 1970 she sang for the first time in the USA. In 1971 she performed the part of Lisa at the Glyndebourne Festival. Since 1972 in Covent Garden (debut as Cio-Cio-san, later performed the roles of Tosca, Aida, etc.). From 1973 she sang for 15 seasons at the Metropolitan Opera (debut as Lisa). Among the roles are Elizabeth in Tannhäuser, Jenufa in Janáček’s opera of the same name, Georgette in Puccini’s Cloak, Juno in Cavalli’s Callisto. Among the recordings is the party of Tatiana (dir. Solti, Decca) and others.
