Richard Bonynge

From 1963 he performed in opera performances. In 1964 he made his debut at Covent Garden (Bellini’s Puritani). He has performed at the Metropolitan Opera since 1970 (Norma, Orpheus and Eurydice by Gluck, etc.). Worked in Vancouver (1973-78), artistic director of the Australian Opera in Sydney (1976-86).

Carried out a number of recordings, including a series of operas by Massenet (The King of Lahore, etc.), Lakme (soloists Sutherland, Bakye), Lucia di Lammermoor (soloists Sutherland, Pavarotti, Milns, Giaurov, both Decca). His wife is singer Joan Sutherland.
