Franco Fagioli was born in 1981 in San Miguel de Tucuman (Argentina). He studied piano at the Higher Musical Institute of the Tucuman National University in his hometown. Later he studied vocals at the Art Institute of Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires. In 1997, Fagioli founded the Saint Martin de Porres Choir with the aim of introducing local youth to music. Following the advice of his vocal coach, Annalise Skovmand (as well as Chelina Lis and Riccardo Jost), Franco decided to sing in the countertenor tessitura.

In 2003, Fagioli won the prestigious Bertelsmann Foundation’s biennial New Voices competition, launching his international career. Since then, he has been active in Europe, South America and the USA, participating in opera productions and giving recitals.

Among the opera parts he performed are Hansel in E. Humperdinck’s opera “Hansel and Gretel”, Oberon in B. Britten’s opera “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”, Etius and Orpheus in K. V. Gluck’s operas “Etius” and “Orpheus and Eurydice ”, Nero and Telemachus in C. Monteverdi’s operas “The Coronation of Poppea” and “The Return of Ulysses to his Homeland”, Cardenius in F. B. Conti’s opera “Don Quixote in the Sierra Morena”, Ruger in A. Vivaldi’s opera “Furious Roland” , Jason in the opera “Jason” by F. Cavalli, Frederic Garcia Lorca in the opera “Ainadamar” by O. N. Golikhov, as well as parts in operas and oratorios by G. F. Handel: Lycas in “Hercules”, Idelbert in “Lothair”, Atamas in Semele, Ariodant in Ariodant, Theseus in Theseus, Bertharide in Rodelinda, Demetrius and Arzak in Berenice, Ptolemy and Julius Caesar in Julius Caesar in Egypt.

Fagioli collaborates with the early music ensembles Academia Montis Regalis, Il Pomo d’Oro and others, with such conductors as Rinaldo Alessandrini, Alan Curtis, Alessandro de Marchi, Diego Fazolis, Gabriel Garrido, Nikolaus Arnocourt, Michael Hofstetter, Rene Jacobs, Conrad Junghenel, José Manuel Quintana, Mark Minkowski, Riccardo Muti and Christophe Rousset.

He has performed at venues in Europe, the USA and Argentina, such as the Colon Theater and the Avenida Theater (Buenos Aires, Argentina), the Argentinean Theater (La Plata, Argentina), the opera houses of Bonn, Essen and Stuttgart (Germany), the Zurich Opera (Zurich, Switzerland), Carlo Felice Theater (Genoa, Italy), Chicago Opera (Chicago, USA), Champs Elysees Theater (Paris, France). Franco has also sung at major European festivals such as the Ludwigsburg Festival and the Handel Festivals in Karlsruhe and Halle (Germany), the Innsbruck Festival (Innsbruck, Austria) and the Itria Valley Festival (Martina Franca, Italy). In September 2014, Fagioli successfully performed at the St. Petersburg Chapel as part of the Earlymusic festival with arias from the operas of Nicola Porpora, accompanied by the Academia Montis Regalis ensemble under the direction of A. de Marchi.
