Debut 1969 (Lübeck, Tamino part). He performed in leading theaters in Germany. Since 1976, he regularly performed at the Bayreuth Festival, gaining fame as an interpreter of Wagnerian parts (Sigmund in The Walküre, Lohengrin, Tristan, Parsifal). In 1980 he made his debut at the Metropolitan Opera as Lohengrin. He toured in Moscow, London, Paris, etc. He also had success in the famous musical by E. L. Webber “The Phantom of the Opera”. Recordings include the title part in Parsifal (dir. Karajan, Deutsche Grammophon), Lohengrin part (LD, dir. Nelsson, Philips), etc.
