Learning the notes of the bass clef

The notes of the bass clef are mastered over time. Active study using conscious settings helps you remember notes in the bass clef faster.

The bass clef is set at the beginning of the staff – the notes will line up from it. The bass clef is written on a ruler and means a note of a small octave (the rulers are counted).

Notes of the following octaves are written in the bass clef: all lines of the staff are occupied by notes of the major and minor octave, above the staff (on additional lines) – several notes from the first octave, below the staff (also on additional lines) – notes of the counter-octave.

Bass clef – notes of large and small octaves

To start mastering the notes of the bass clef, it is enough to study two octaves – large and small, everything else will follow by itself. You will find the concept of octaves in the article “What are the names of the piano keys.” Here’s what it looks like in notes:

To make it easy to remember the notes of the bass clef, let’s designate several points that will serve as guides for us.

1)    First of all, it is possible, in its surroundings, to easily name the locations of several other notes of the same octave.

2)    The second guideline I suggest is the location on the staff – major, minor and first octave. A note up to the major octave is written on two additional lines from below, up to a small octave – between the 2nd and 3rd lines (on the staff itself, that is, as if “inside”), and up to the first octave it occupies the first additional line from above.

You can come up with some of your own guidelines. Well, for example, separate out the notes that are written on the rulers and those that occupy the spaces.

Another way to quickly master notes in the bass clef is to complete the training exercises “How to learn notes easily and quickly.” It offers a number of practical tasks (written, oral and piano playing), which help not only to understand the notes, but also to develop an ear for music.
