Since 1983 he has been a soloist of the Mariinsky Theater (among the roles are Germont, Figaro, Valentin in Faust). Since the late 80s he has been singing abroad. In 1988 he performed the part of Marseille in La Boheme (Boston). Since 1991 at the Metropolitan Opera (debut in a gala concert). In 1992, he performed here the part of Rodrigo in Don Carlos. Sang in Covent Garden the part of Figaro (1990). Participated in a number of premiere productions of Verdi’s operas at the Metropolitan Opera (1993, Stiffelio, the part of Count Stankar; 1996, The Force of Destiny, the part of Don Carlos). In the 1996-97 season, he performed there in the title role in Eugene Onegin. In 1993 at the Salzburg Festival he performed the role of Ford in Falstaff. Among the recordings of the part of Rodrigo in Don Carlos (conductor Levine, Sony), Yeletsky (conductor Gergiev, Philips).
