1) An interval of ten steps; is indicated by the number 10. There is a large D. (abbr. b. 10), containing eight tones, and a small D. (m. 10), containing seven and a half tones. D. refers to the number of compound intervals, which exceed the volume of an octave, and is considered as the sum of a pure octave and a third, or as a third through an octave; a large D. can be increased, and a small D. reduced by a semitone.
