The New Russia State Symphony Orchestra was established in 1990 by decree of the Government of the Russian Federation. Originally called “Young Russia”. Until 2002, the orchestra was led by the People’s Artist of Russia Mark Gorenstein.
In 2002, Yuri Bashmet took over as conductor, opening a qualitatively new page in the history of the band. The orchestra under the direction of the Maestro acquired its own unique style of performance, which is distinguished by creative emancipation, audacity of interpretation, amazing spirituality of performance, combined with a deep, rich sound.
Renowned musicians collaborate with the orchestra, including Valery Gergiev, Emil Tabakov, Vladimir Ashkenazi, Alexander Lazarev, Saulius Sondeckis, David Stern, Luciano Acocella, Teodor Currentzis, Barry Douglas, Peter Donohoe, Denis Matsuev, Elizaveta Leonskaya, Boris Berezovsky, Viktor Tretyakov, Gidon Kremer, Vadim Repin, Sergey Krylov, Victoria Mullova, Natalia Gutman, David Geringas, Sergey Antonov, Deborah Voight, Anna Netrebko, Laura Claycombe, Placido Domingo, Montserrat Caballe, Anna Katerina Antonacci, Patricia Ciofi, Elina Garancha, Ulyana Lopatkina.
Since 2002, the New Russia Orchestra has given more than 350 concerts in Russia and abroad, including in the cities of the Volga region, the Golden Ring, the Urals, Siberia, the Moscow Region, the Baltic States, Azerbaijan, Belarus and Ukraine, as well as France, Germany, Greece, Great Britain, Italy, Holland, Spain, Austria, Turkey, Bulgaria, India, Finland, Japan.
The repertoire of “New Russia” constantly attracts listeners with its diversity. It successfully combines classic and modern. The orchestra often performs premiere performances, including such names as S. Gubaidulina, A. Schnittke, E. Denisov, M. Tariverdiev, H. Rotta, G. Kancheli, A. Tchaikovsky, B. Bartok, J. Menotti, I. Reichelson, E. Tabakov, A. Baltin, V. Komarov, B. Frankshtein, G. Buzogly.
Since 2008, the orchestra has been participating annually in the Yury Bashmet Winter Music Festival in Sochi, the Rostropovich Festival, the Yury Bashmet International Festivals in Yaroslavl and Minsk.
In the 2011-2012 season Orchestra “New Russia” will hold three subscription cycles in the Great Hall of the Conservatory and the Concert Hall. P.I. Tchaikovsky, will take part in the season tickets “Opera Masterpieces”, “Stars of the World Opera in Moscow”, “Stars of the XNUMXst Century”, “Music, Painting, Life”, “Popular Musical Encyclopedia”. By tradition, a number of concerts of the band will be held as part of the festivals “Dedication to Oleg Kagan” and “Guitar Virtuosi”.
