Australian singer (soprano). Debut 1954 (Melbourne, part of Santuzza in Rural Honor). Since 1956 in Covent Garden (Musetta). Best roles: Tosca, Manon Lescaut, Jenufa in Janacek’s opera of the same name, and others. 1st performer of the part of Hecuba in Tippett’s “Tsar Priam” (1962). She sang the title role at the premiere of Katerina Izmailova in London (1963). In the 1966-67 season she made her debut at the new building of the Metropolitan Opera at Lincoln Center. In the same season she participated in the American premiere of Janáček’s The Makropulos Affair (part of Emilia Martha). Tragic death (Collier fell from the 4th floor of a London hotel) ended her career as a singer. She recorded the part of Chrysothemis in one of the best versions of R. Strauss’ Elektra (1967, dir. Solti, Decca).
