terms and concepts

A technique of musical composition that operates with a series – a certain series of sounds, the repetition of which forms the entire fabric of the composition or its parts. The concept “S. t.” has two meanings. In a broad sense, S. t. involves the use of a series of any parameter, as well as their combinations (see Seriality). In a narrow sense, S. t. is the technique of a high-pitched series, which coincides with the concept of dodecaphony.
