Debut 1949 (Athens, part of Raymond in Lucia di Lammermoor). Since 1953 at La Scala (Sparafucile in Rigoletto, etc.). From 1956 at the Vienna Opera, from 1957 for a number of years he sang at the Salzburg Festival (Don Fernando in Fidelio, Commander in Don Giovanni, Ferrano in Il trovatore). From 1957 at Covent Garden, here in 1959 he performed as Creon in Cherubini’s Medea, with Callas in the title role.

Participated in the world premiere of the opera Murder in the Cathedral by Pizzetti (1958, Milan, part of Thomas). Among the parties are also Zacharias in Verdi’s Nabucco, Sarastro, Rodolfo in Bellini’s La sonnambula, Basilio and others. He performed at the Bolshoi Theater. Among the recordings, we note the part of Basilio (conductor A. Galliera, soloists Gobbi, Callas, Alva, F. Ollendorf and others, EMI).
