1) The name of each of the main rhythmic formulas used in the works of the composers of the Notre Dame Cathedral school (12th-13th centuries). There were five formulas characterized by the correct alternation of durations; they formed tripartite rhythms.
2) The general name of the scale of the note longa (i.e. its division into 2 or 3 notes brevis) in mensural notation.
