Dusolina Giannini
She studied singing with her father, opera singer Ferruccio Giannini (tenor) and with M. Sembrich in New York. In 1925 she made her debut as a concert singer in New York (Carnegie Hall), as an opera singer – in Hamburg in the part of Aida (1927).
She sang at the Covent Garden Theater in London (1928-29 and 1931), at the State Opera in Berlin (1932), then in Geneva and Vienna; in 1933-1934 – in Oslo and Monte Carlo; in 1934-36 – at the Salzburg Festivals, including in opera performances conducted by B. Walter and A. Toscanini. In 1936-41 she was a soloist at the Metropolitan Opera (New York).
One of the outstanding singers of the 30s of the 20th century, Giannini had a beautiful and flexible voice of a wide range (sang parts and mezzo-soprano); Giannini’s game, rich in subtle nuances, captivated with its bright artistic temperament and expression.
Parts: Donna Anna (“Don Juan”), Alice (“Falstaff”), Aida; Desdemona (Otello by Verdi), Tosca, Carmen; Santuzza (“Rural honor” Mascagni). From 1962 she taught and lived in Monte Carlo.
