Outstanding Russian opera singer (bass). He studied at Moscow University and at the School of Music and Drama, singing class. In 1919-22 – artist of the choir. In 1922-24 soloist of the Zimin Free Opera in Moscow, from 1924 at the Bolshoi Theatre. Among the best parts of Pirogov: Susanin, Ruslan, Melnik, Boris Godunov, Dosifey (“Khovanshchina”), Ivan the Terrible (“Pskovityanka”). Pirogov’s great temperament and singing skills were combined with a great musical culture and versatile stage talent. The singer’s concert repertoire includes folk songs and Russian chamber classics.
