People’s Artist of the USSR (1965). Laureate of the Stalin Prize of the first degree (1951). Soloist of the Bolshoi Theater since 1949 (debut as Dosifey). 1st performer on the Russian stage of the roles of Theseus in Britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream (1965), the General in Prokofiev’s The Gambler (1974), a participant in the world premieres of a number of modern operas. He toured abroad, acted in films (“Aleko”, 1954, the title role and others). Other parties include Boris Godunov, Gremin, Philip II, Basilio, Mephistopheles. Among the recordings of the party are Gremin (conducted by Rostropovich, Le Chant du Monde), Dosifei (conducted by Khaikin, Le Chant du Monde).
