Debut 1967 (Vienna, part of the Queen of the Night). She performed at the New York City Opera from 1968-69. Since 1975 at La Scala, since 1978 at the Metropolitan Opera (debut as Marcellina in Fidelio). Auger’s repertoire includes parts from baroque operas, Mozart, etc. A major achievement of the singer was the performance of the part of Alcina in Handel’s opera of the same name (1885, London; 1986, San Francisco; 1990, Paris). Among the parties are also Poppea in the opera The Coronation of Poppea by Monteverdi, Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni and others. She sang in Mozart’s Requiem on the days of the 200th anniversary of the composer’s death (1991, Vienna). From the recordings of the singer, we note the Mozart parts of Constanza in The Abduction from the Seraglio (dir. Böhm, DG), Aspasia in the opera Mithridates, King of Pontus (dir. L. Hager, Philips).
