Proper promotion of a music group – advice from a PR manager
Working with the target audience, developing all kinds of connections, constant self-improvement – these are precisely the “three pillars” on which the independent promotion of a group is based. But there is no point in promoting a musical group without a name and a clearly defined style.
Let’s consider the key aspects of promoting a young musical group that you should first pay attention to.
Promo material. Promoting a musical group will be more effective if you have something to offer potential fans: audio, video, photos, etc. Make high-quality photographic material – for this it is best to contact a professional photographer. To start promoting, one or two high-quality demo recordings will be enough.
The Internet. Choose several sites where you can create pages for your group and update them regularly. First of all, you should pay attention to social networks and music-related web resources. Don’t scatter yourself – objectively assess your strength by regularly maintaining your pages.
You can also try to promote your creativity to various online collections. With the growing popularity, it is advisable to create your own team website.
Concerts. Regularly organize “live” performances with their preliminary advertising on social networks, as well as by posting posters. Look for opportunities to perform outside of your city. Distribute calendars, stickers, T-shirts, CDs and other band merchandise at concerts (it’s better to give away something less expensive for free at the first performances).
MASS MEDIA. Try to regularly maintain contact with the media in your city (radio, television, press). Also master Internet publications and online radio. It’s better when media representatives themselves find out about you and offer cooperation. To do this, you need to actively promote the group online, appear in various competitions and selections (and, preferably, win them).
Intergroup cooperation. Communicate with your “colleagues.” Organize general performances with other groups and join forces to travel outside your hometown. You can invite more famous groups to perform as an opening act for them, and also record a song together.
Fans From the very beginning of the team’s existence, look for people interested in your work. Keep in constant contact with your fans. Try to turn your listeners into fans, and ordinary fans into the most devoted ones. Keep them active on your web pages: regularly publish group news, update content, organize various discussions and competitions, etc.
Promotion of a musical group should occur in an organized and regular manner. There are no secrets here – it all depends on your determination and hard work. But no matter how large-scale the group’s promotion is, you can hardly count on success without the sincerity of your aspirations and quality music.
