She made her debut in 1900 (St. Petersburg, Tsereteli’s entreprise). In 1901-04 she performed at the Mariinsky Theatre, from 1904 at the Bolshoi Theatre. In 1906-07 she sang at La Scala (in Wagnerian parts). Soloist of the Zimina Opera House (1908-10), then sang again (until 1917) at the Mariinsky and Bolshoi theatres. 1st performer on the Russian stage of the roles of Gutruna in The Death of the Gods (1903), Elektra in the opera of the same name by R. Strauss (1913, Mariinsky Theater, director Meyerhold). She performed in Diaghilev’s Russian Seasons (1908, part of Marina). She sang at the Grand Opera, from 1917 a soloist at Covent Garden. In 1924 she emigrated to Paris, where she became famous as a performer of the Wagnerian repertoire (Elsa in Lohengrin, Gutrune, Brunhilde in Siegfried, etc.). Among the parties are also Liza, Tatyana, Yaroslavna, Martha, Aida, Violetta, Elektra. In exile she performed at the Grand Opera, in the entreprise of Tsereteli and others. One of the best parts is Natasha (Dargomyzhsky’s Mermaid), which she sang in 1931 in performances with Chaliapin.
