An honorary title of a person who has received a special prize or award. For the first time this title was awarded in ancient Greece and Rome. Laureate of a music competition – a participant in the competition, awarded by the decision of the jury with a prize. According to the terms of some competitions, the title of laureate is given only to the participant who received the 1st prize.
