Debut 1936 (Krefeld). Since 1943 he has participated in the Bayreuth Festival (his debut as Pogner in Wagner’s Meistersingers at Nuremberg). In 1948-70 he sang at the Deutsche Oper Berlin (performed in 1369 performances). From 1952 he performed at the Metropolitan Opera (debut as Heinrich in Lohengrin). Greindl is considered the unsurpassed specialist in Wagner. Among the parties are Gurnemanz in Parsifal, Hagen in The Death of the Gods, Daland in The Flying Dutchman. He also performed at the Salzburg Festival from 1949 (parts of Sarastro, Commander in Don Giovanni, etc.). Participated in the world premiere of Orff’s Antigone (1949, Salzburg Festival), performed the role of Moses in the first German stage production of Schoenberg’s opera Moses and Aaron (1, Berlin). Among the recordings of the part of Hagen (dir. Böhm, Philips), Osmin in the opera Abduction from the Seraglio by Mozart (dir. Frichai, Deutsche Grammophon), etc.
