Johanna Gadski
Debut 1889 (Berlin, part of Agatha in The Free Shooter). She performed in the United States from 1895. In 1899 she performed the part of Eve in The Nuremberg Mastersingers at the Bayreuth Festival. In 1899-1901 she sang at Covent Garden (debut as Elizabeth in Tannhäuser). In 1900-17 she was a soloist at the Metropolitan Opera (debut as Senta in Wagner’s The Flying Dutchman, among other parts of Aida, Tosca, Leonore in Il trovatore, Micaela, etc.). Among the best parts is also Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni, she sang this part in Salzburg (1906), the Metropolitan Opera (1908, with Chaliapin, who made his debut as Leporello). One of the best performers of the Wagner repertoire at the beginning of the 20th century.
