Born May 23, 1912 at Le Mans. French composer. He studied at the Paris Conservatory with N. Boulanger.
Author of operas, orchestral and instrumental compositions. He wrote the oratorio “Apocalypse according to St. John” (1939), symphonies, concertos (including for four woodwind instruments with an orchestra), ensembles, piano pieces, music for films.
He is the author of many ballets, among which the most famous are “The Beach”, “Dance School” (on the themes of Boccherini, both – 1933), “The Naked King” (1935), “Sentimental Game” (1936), “Venetian Glass” (1938) , “Court of the Mad” (1939), “The Misfortunes of Sophie” (1948), “Girls of the Night” (1948), “Farewell” (1952).
