Ghena Dimitrova

She made her debut in 1965 in Skopje (Abigaille in Verdi’s Nabucco). Since 1969 she has been a soloist of the Sofia Opera. In the 1970s She performed in many European cities (Strasbourg, Karlsruhe, Stuttgart). In 1982-83 Dimitrova had a huge success as Turandot in the Arena di Verona, in 1983 in the same part in La Scala. In 1984 she performed the part of Lady Macbeth at the Salzburg Festival.

Other parts include Aida, Leonora in Il trovatore, Norma, Santuzza in Rural Honour. Since 1984 at the Metropolitan Opera (Abigail, Santuzza and other parts). In 1989 she toured Moscow with La Scala. In 1993 she performed the title role in Catalani’s Lorelei in Verona. In 1996 she again sang Turandot (one of her best roles) at the Metropolitan Opera and Torre del Lago.

Participated in three recordings of Nabucco, among them the version conducted by Sinopoli (Deutsche Grammophon). Other recordings include the part of Turandot (video, Conductor Arena, Castle Vision).
