After an internship at La Scala (1978), he performed on the stages of the Vilnius, then the Yerevan Opera and Ballet Theatres. In 1989 he performed the role of Cavaradossi in Lvov. Since 1990 he has performed at the Mariinsky Theatre. In 1991 he sang the part of Gennaro in Donizetti’s Lucrezia Borgia (Amsterdam). Since 1993 in Covent Garden (debut as Lensky). In 1994 he performed in Rome as Radames. In the same year he performed the part of Pollio in Norma (Genoa). In 1995, he performed at the Metropolitan Opera (Herman’s part). In 1996 he sang in Wiesbaden with Marton in Tosca (Cavaradossi). Among the recordings are the parts of Vladimir Igorevich (conductor Gergiev, Philips), Herman (conductor Gergiev, Philips).
