Debut 1971 (Gothenburg, part of Rudolf). Since 1973 he sang in Stockholm. He sang Belmont in Abduction from the Seraglio (1980, Glyndebourne Festival), performed in 1982-83 at the Salzburg Festival. Since 1982 in Covent Garden (the title role in the “Mercy of Titus” by Mozart, etc.). In the 1983/84 season he made his debut at the Metropolitan Opera (Don Ottavio). In 1985 he successfully performed the part of Tamino at La Scala. Among the performances of recent years are Lohengrin (1990, Zurich), Walter in Wagner’s Die Meistersingers Nuremberg (1993, Covent Garden), Parsifal (1995, Stockholm). The repertoire also includes the parts of Almaviva, Faust, Duke. Alfred, Lensky and others. Recordings include Pylades in Gluck’s Iphigenia in Tauris (conducted by Muti, Sony), the title role in Mozart’s Mercy of Titus (conducted by Muti, EMI) and others.
