Debut 1931 (Mexico City, as Count di Luna in Il trovatore). From 1943 he performed tenor parts. Sang at the Metropolitan Opera in 1946-61 (debut as Jose). In 1947, the singer was a huge success in the part of Othello (La Scala). In 1951 he performed the same part at the Salzburg Festival conducted by Furtwängler. He performed at the Bayreuth Festival in 1952-57 (the title parts in Tristan and Isolde, Tannhäuser, Parsifal, etc.). Vinaya’s greatest achievement was the performance of Otello under Toscanini in 1947 on NBC (recorded at RCA Victor). Other parties include Scarpia, Iago, Falstaff, Samson and others.
