Yevgeny Kolobov
After graduating from the choral school at the Leningrad Glinka Chapel and the Ural Conservatory, Evgeny Kolobov worked as the chief director at the Yekaterinburg Opera and Ballet Theater. In 1981 Kolobov became the conductor of the Mariinsky Theatre. In 1987, he headed the Moscow Academic Musical Theater named after Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko.
In 1991, Evgeny Kolobov created the New Opera Theater. Kolobov himself said this about the Novaya Opera: “With this music, I strive to make my theater so that it is different, interesting. Symphony concerts, literary evenings and chamber programs will be performed on the stage of our theater.”
Evgeny Kolobov produced a number of first productions of operas in Russia: Bellini’s The Pirate, Donizetti’s Maria Stuart, Mussorgsky’s version of Boris Godunov, Glinka’s original stage version of Ruslan and Lyudmila.
The touring activity of Yevgeny Kolobov is huge and varied. He collaborated with the best musical groups, including the Russian National Symphony Orchestra, the St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra. Kolobov has conducted in the USA, Canada, France, Japan, Spain and Portugal. Memorable events were the performance of 13 symphonies by Dmitry Shostakovich at the Florentine May festival in Italy, the production of Boris Godunov in Florence, as well as concerts with the participation of Dmitry Hvorostovsky in the great hall of the Moscow Conservatory.
During his creative activity, Evgeny Kolobov has recorded several CDs. He is the winner of the independent Triumph award, the Golden Mask award and the Moscow City Hall award in the field of culture.
Kolobov said about himself and about life: “An artist must have 2 main qualities: an honest name and talent. If the presence of talent depends on God, then the artist himself is responsible for his honest name.
