A number of Guiraud’s operas enjoyed success in the 19th century (Madame Turlupin, 1872; Piccolino, 1876). Guiraud is also known for writing recitatives for the opera Carmen (for a production in Vienna, 1875), and completing and preparing for production the unfinished opera Les Hoffmann by Offenbach.
