Debut 1970 (Munich, Don Giovanni). From 1971 he worked at the Bavarian Opera (parts of Papageno, Wolfram in Tannhäuser, Germont, etc.). Since 1975 at the Metropolitan Opera (debut as Count Almaviva). He performed at La Scala and the Vienna Opera. Since 1985 he has performed at the Bayreuth Festival Since 1985 at Covent Garden (the part of Count di Luna in Il trovatore). Other parts include Miller in Verdi’s Louise Miller and Mandryka in R. Strauss’s Arabella. Note the Spanish in 1988 at the Vienna Opera in the title role in Eugene Onegin (Freni performed as Tatyana). In 1996 he sang the part of Mandryka in Covent Garden. Recorded the part of Eugene Onegin in Chicago (video, dir. Bartoletti, Castle vision). Among other entries of Ottokar’s part in The Magic Shooter (dir. Kubelik, Decca).
