Wedel. Open the doors of repentance to me (Fyodor Chaliapin)

Educated at the Kyiv Theological Academy. For some time he studied with the Italian composer and conductor G. Sarti. Led choirs in Moscow, Kyiv. From 1796 he headed the vocal music class of the Kharkov Collegium and at the same time the governor’s choirs of church singers. Author of church choral concerts. Wedel’s best works are notable for their great expressiveness and simplicity of melodic style and spectacular choral sonority. Some of Vedel’s compositions show closeness to the Ukrainian urban folk song.
