Andriy Yurkevych

Andriy Yurkevich was born in Ukraine in the city of Zborov (Ternopil region). In 1996 he graduated from the Lviv National Music Academy named after. N.V. Lysenko majoring in opera and symphony conducting, class of Professor Yu.A. Lutsiva. He improved his performing skills as a conductor at the Polish National Opera and Ballet Theater in Warsaw, at the Chidzhana Academy of Music (Siena, Italy). Winner of the Special Prize of the National Competition. C.V. Turchak in Kyiv.

Since 1996 he has worked as a conductor at the National Opera and Ballet Theatre. Solomiya Krushelnytska in Lvov. He made his debut in productions of operas by Verdi (Aida, Il trovatore, La Traviata, Rigoletto), Puccini (La Boheme, Madama Butterfly, Tosca), in productions of Bizet’s Carmen, the operettas The Gypsy Baron “Strauss-son, Lehár’s The Merry Widow, operas by Russian and Ukrainian composers, Tchaikovsky’s ballets (“The Nutcracker”, “Swan Lake”), as well as Minkus’s La Bayadère and Delibes’ Coppélia.

In 2005 in Italy on Itria Valley Festival in Martina Franca, as musical director, he staged the opera Romeo and Juliet by Filippo Marchetti (its audio recording was published on CD). Since debuting in the 2005 season at the Rome Opera House (Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake), he has also conducted other ballets by the composer (The Sleeping Beauty and The Nutcracker). Collaborates with the Monte-Carlo Opera House (Rossini’s Journey to Reims), with the Royal Opera House La Monnaie in Brussels (Mussorgsky’s Boris Godunov, Verdi’s The Force of Destiny), with the Massimo Theater in Palermo (Norma » Bellini). In Chile, he collaborates with the Municipal Theater of Santiago (Donizetti’s Daughter of the Regiment).

In the 2007/2008 season, the conductor performed with the Toscanini Symphony Orchestra (Parma) and the Sicilian Symphony Orchestra (Palermo). At the Berlin Philharmonic he conducted Norma with Edita Gruberova, at the Bavarian and Stuttgart State Operas he conducted Rossini’s The Barber of Seville with Vesselina Kazarova.

In 2009 he staged the following operas: Tchaikovsky’s The Queen of Spades at the Theater of St. Gallen (Switzerland), Bellini’s I Puritani at the National Opera in Athens, The Regiment’s Daughter in San Francisco with Diana Damrau and Juan Diego Flores, as well as Love Potion by Donizetti at the Chisinau National Opera House. Conducted concerts in Vienna, Gstaadt (Switzerland), Munich.

In 2010 he made an audio CD recording of Donizetti’s Lucrezia Borgia with Edita Gruberova and the West German Radio Cologne Orchestra (live performance at the Cologne Philharmonic). Concert performances of this opera were also performed in Dortmund and Dresden. Symphony concerts of the conductor were held in Chisinau, Naples, Verona. Performances of “Norma” in Mannheim and Duisburg, “Mary Stuart” by Donizetti in Naples, “Eugene Onegin” by Tchaikovsky in Düsseldorf, “Rigoletto” in Santiago (Chile) took place.

The year 2011 began for the conductor with a grandiose debut at Barcelona’s Liceu Theater (a new production of Donizetti’s Anna Boleyn: Anna – Edita Gruberova, Seymour – Elina Garancha, Heinrich – Carlo Colombara, Percy – José Bros). This year, the maestro is also scheduled to return to Warsaw (Polish National Opera and Ballet Theatre). His debuts are expected at the opera houses of Berlin (State Opera), Budapest and Bratislava, as well as concerts in Ukraine (Kyiv) and Japan (Based on materials from the conductor’s own curriculum vitae).
