Ryauzov, Sergei
Born in 1905 in Moscow, in the family of an employee. He began to study composition from a young age (the first teacher in composition was the composer I.P. Shishov). In 1923 he entered the 1st State Musical College, where he studied composition with B. L. Yavorsky. In 1925 he entered the Moscow Conservatory (studied with R. M. Gliere and S. N. Vasilenko). After graduating in 1930, Ryauzov paid much attention to the music of the peoples of the USSR, traveled to the national republics of Central Asia, Transcaucasia and others.
In the thirties, he created works based on the national musical themes of various Soviet peoples: a quartet (1934), a concerto for flute and string orchestra (1936), a symphony (1938), as well as many works for orchestras of folk instruments – several suites, concert pieces and other writings.
In 1946, Sergei Nikolaevich Ryauzov was sent by the Union of Soviet Composers of the USSR for creative work in Buryatia.
A major work of the composer is the opera “Medegmash” about the life of Soviet Buryatia. The folklore material of the peoples of this autonomous republic is widely used in the opera.
