Sergei Antonov is the winner of the First Prize and the Gold Medal in the specialty “cello” of the XIII International Tchaikovsky Competition (June 2007), one of the youngest winners in the history of this prestigious musical competition.

Sergey Antonov was born in 1983 in Moscow into a family of cello musicians, received his musical education at the Central Music School at the Moscow Conservatory (class of M. Yu. Zhuravleva) and the Moscow Conservatory in the class of Professor N. N. Shakhovskaya (she also completed postgraduate studies) . He also completed postgraduate studies at the Hartt School of Music (USA).

Sergei Antonov is a laureate of a number of international competitions: the International Competition in Sofia (Grand Prix, Bulgaria, 1995), the Dotzauer Competition (1998nd prize, Germany, 2003), the Swedish Chamber Music Competition (2004st prize, Katrineholm, 2007), the International Competition named after Popper in Budapest (XNUMXnd prize, Hungary, XNUMX), the International Chamber Music Competition in New York (XNUMXst prize, USA, XNUMX).

The musician took part in the master classes of Daniil Shafran and Mstislav Rostropovich, participated in the international festivals of M. Rostropovich. He was a scholarship holder of the V. Spivakov International Charitable Foundation, the New Names Foundation, the M. Rostropovich Foundation and the owner of a nominal scholarship named after N. Ya. Myaskovsky.

The victory at one of the world’s major music competitions gave a powerful impetus to the international career of a musician. Sergey Antonov performs with leading Russian and European symphony orchestras, gives concerts in the USA, Canada, most European countries and Asian countries. The musician actively tours the cities of Russia, participates in numerous festivals and projects (festivals “Crescendo”, “Offering to Rostropovich” and others). In 2007 he became a soloist of the Moscow Philharmonic.

Sergei Antonov has collaborated with many famous musicians, including Mikhail Pletnev, Yuri Bashmet, Yuri Simonov, Evgeny Bushkov, Maxim Vengerov, Justus Frantz, Marius Stravinsky, Jonathan Bratt, Mitsueshi Inoue, David Geringas, Dora Schwartzberg, Dmitry Sitkovetsky, Christian Zimmerman, Vadim Rudenko, Maxim Mogilevsky, Misha Kaylin and many others. Plays in ensembles with young Russian stars – Ekaterina Mechetina, Nikita Borisoglebsky, Vyacheslav Gryaznov.

Sergei Antonov’s permanent stage partner is pianist Ilya Kazantsev, with whom he continues to perform chamber programs in the USA, Europe and Japan. The cellist is also a member of the Hermitage trio, together with pianist Ilya Kazantsev and violinist Misha Keilin.

The musician has released several CDs: with recordings of cello sonatas by Rachmaninov and Myaskovsky with pianist Pavel Raikerus on the New Classics label, with recordings of Schumann’s chamber works with pianist Elina Blinder, and an album with miniatures by Russian composers in an ensemble with Ilya Kazantsev on the BOSTONIA records label.

In the current season, Sergei Antonov continues to work closely with the Moscow Philharmonic, performs in the Stars of the XNUMXst Century and Romantic Concertos projects, as well as as part of a piano trio with Ekaterina Mechetina and Nikita Borisoglebsky, and tours the cities of Russia.
