Armenian Soviet conductor. Few young conductors can name among their teachers G. Karayan, one of the greatest musicians of our time. After all, he, as a rule, is not engaged in pedagogical activity. Meanwhile, in 1963, Karajan agreed to become the director of the young talented conductor Ruben Vartanian. Vartanyan came to Vienna for an internship after graduating from the Moscow Conservatory (1960), where his specialty teachers were N. Anosov and K. Ptitsa. Having already begun his concert activity, he perfected himself as an assistant conductor in the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra (1964-1967) and repeatedly performed with this ensemble. In 1967, Vartanyan led the Armenian SSR Symphony Orchestra in Yerevan. He often toured in Moscow and many other cities of the country.

In 1988 he emigrated to the USA, where he continued his conducting activity.
