Raina Kabaivanska

She made her debut in 1957 (Sofia, part of Tatiana). Since 1961 at La Scala (debut in the title role in Bellini’s Beatrice di Tenda). From 1962 at Covent Garden, where her debut as Desdemona (with Del Monaco as Othello) was a great success. Since 1962 also at the Metropolitan Opera (debut as Nedda in Pagliacci).

Later she sang in various opera houses around the world, in 1978 she performed the part of Madama Butterfly at the Arena di Verona festival. Among the performances of the last years of the role of Elizabeth in Don Carlos (1991, Venice), Adriana Lecouvreur in the opera of the same name Cilea (1996, Palermo).

Among the best parties are also Lisa, Mimi, Liu, Tosca. Kabaivanska also performed the latter in the film-opera together with Domingo (conductor Bartoletti).

Recordings include the role of Alice Ford in Falstaff (conductor Karajan, Philips).
