Composer Orest Alexandrovich Evlakhov graduated from the Leningrad Conservatory in the composition class of D. Shostakovich in 1941. His first major work is the Piano Concerto (1939). In subsequent years, he created two symphonies, 4 symphonic suites, a quartet, a trio, a violin sonata, a vocal ballad “Night Patrol”, piano and cello pieces, choirs, songs, romances.
Evlakhov’s first ballet, The Day of Miracles, was written jointly with M. Matveev. In 1946 it was staged by the choreographic studio of the Leningrad Palace of Pioneers.
The ballet Ivushka, Yevlakhov’s largest work, was written in the tradition of Rimsky-Korsakov and Lyadov, the classics of Russian fairy-tale music.
