Maurice jarre
Born September 13, 1924 in Lyon. French composer. He studied at the Paris Conservatory (with L. Aubert and A. Honegger). In the 1950s worked at the Comedie-Française and was the musical director of the National People’s Theatre.
He is the author of music for dramatic performances and films, orchestral compositions; the opera-ballet Armida (1954), the ballets Masks of Women (1951), Pesky Encounters (1958), The Murdered Poet (1958), Maldorf (1962), Notre Dame Cathedral (1965) , “Aor” (1971), “In honor of Isadora” (1977).
The most popular ballet is Notre Dame Cathedral, which was staged by the troupe of the Paris Opera (season 1969/70) and the Marseille Ballet (1974), as well as at the Mariinsky Theater in St. Petersburg in 1978.
