She made her debut in 1934 (Bari, part of Mimi). Since 1935 in La Scala (Mimi party). In 1936-39 she sang in Rome (parts of Mimi, Liu, Sophie in Werther, etc.). In 1937 she sang Liu at Covent Garden. Since 1940 at the Metropolitan Opera (debut in the part of Cio-Cio-san, which became one of the best in her career). She performed here about 300 times until 1966.

Among the parties are Suzanne, Margherita, Donna Anna, Lauretta in Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi and others. She sang with Toscanini. She recorded with him the parts of Mimi, La Traviata (RCA Victor). Other roles include Mikaela, Fedor in Giordano’s opera of the same name, Norina in Don Pasquale. In 1970, Albanese gave her last concert (Carnegie Hall).
