Debut 1867 (Varese, part of Nemorino). In 1877-87 at Covent Garden (parts of Fernando in The Favorite by Donizetti, Sobinin in the opera A Life for the Tsar, Faust, etc.). 1st performer of Enzo in Ponchielli’s Gioconda (1876, La Scala) and Marcello in Donizetti’s posthumous production of The Duke of Alba (1882). Among other roles, Nadir in Bizet’s The Pearl Seekers, Radames, and others. Gaillarre was one of the most outstanding Spanish singers of the 19th century. In 1889 he suddenly lost his voice during a performance in Madrid as Nadir.
