John Lanchbery
English conductor and composer. From 1947 to 1949 he was musical director of the Metropolitan Ballet. In 1951 he was invited to the Sadler’s Wells Ballet, in 1960 he became principal conductor of the Royal Ballet Covent Garden. From 1972 to 1978 he worked with the Australian Ballet, and from 1978-1980 with the American Ballet Theatre. Since 1980 he has been a freelance conductor and arranger for various ballet companies around the world.
Lanchbury owns arrangements for the ballets by C. Macmillan “House of Birds” (1955) and “Mayerling” (1978), F. Ashton’s “Vain Precaution” (1960), “Dream” (1964) and “A Month in the Country” (1976), Don Quixote (1966) and La Bayadère (1991, Paris Opera) revised by R. Nureyev, Tales of Hoffmann by P. Darrell for the Scottish Ballet (1972) and others.
Composer of scores for several films, including “Turning Point” by H. Ross.
