Born in Irkutsk on January 19, 1925. As a child, he studied violin with his father, who was a student of L.S. Auer. In Moscow he graduated from the Central Music School in the class of E.M. Gendlin (1941), then the Moscow Conservatory (1947) and postgraduate studies at the State Musical and Pedagogical Institute. Gnesins (1952) in the cello class of S.M. Kozolupov.

In 1944 he was one of the organizers of the student string quartet, which in 1946 became part of the Moscow Philharmonic, and in 1955 was named the A.P. Borodin Quartet and later became one of the leading Russian chamber ensembles. Berlinsky performed with the ensemble from 1945 to 2007.

Since 2000 – President of the Quartet Charitable Foundation. Borodin. He has toured as part of a quartet in more than 50 countries around the world. Since 1947, teacher of the cello and chamber ensemble of the Musical College. Ippolitov-Ivanov, since 1970 – Russian Academy of Music. Gnesins (professor since 1980).

He brought up a number of quartet groups, including the Russian String Quartet, the Dominant Quartet, the Veronica Quartet (works in the USA), the Quartet. Rachmaninov (Sochi), Romantic Quartet, Moscow Quartet, Astana Quartet (Kazakhstan), Motz Art Quartet (Saratov).

Berlinsky – organizer and chairman of the jury of the quartet competition. Shostakovich (Leningrad – Moscow, 1979), artistic director of the International Festival of Arts. Academician Sakharov in Nizhny Novgorod (since 1992).

In 1974 he was awarded the title of People’s Artist of the RSFSR. Laureate of the State Prize of the RSFSR. Glinka (1968), the State Prize of the USSR (1986), Prizes of Moscow and Nizhny Novgorod (both – 1997). Since 2001 he has been President of the Charitable Foundation. Tchaikovsky.
