Jeanne Marie Berthier’s real name and surname is a French singer (soprano), pianist and director. Student of G. Paran (piano), Brunet-Lafleur and E. Angel (singing). She gave concerts as a pianist; in 1900 she performed for the first time as a singer in a philharmonic concert in Barcelona, in 1901 – on the opera stage in Nantes (as Cinderella, Cinderella by Massenet). In the same year, A. Toscanini was invited to the theater “La Scala”. In 1917-19, she organized chamber concerts in the premises of the Vieux Colombier Theater, staged musical performances, including Adam de la Alle’s The Game of Robin and Marion, Debussy’s The Chosen One, Chabrier’s Bad Education, and others. 1926-33 and 1939-45 she lived in Buenos Aires, gave concerts, promoting the works of contemporary French composers (A. Duparc, D. Millau, F. Poulenc, A. Honegger, etc.), led choral societies, sang on the stage of the theater ” Colon”, acted as a dramatic actress. In 1946 she returned to Paris, taught (singing), gave lectures on music on radio and television.
One of the outstanding representatives of the French vocal school, Bathory was a subtle interpreter and propagandist of the chamber vocal works of C. Debussy, M. Ravel, the composers of the Six and other French musicians of the 20th century. (often the first performer of their works). In Bathory’s operatic repertoire: Marion (“The Game of Robin and Marion” by Adam de la Alle), Serpina (“Madame-Mistress” Pergolesi), Marie (“Daughter of the Regiment” by Donizetti), Mimi (“La Boheme” by Puccini), Mignon (” Mignon” Massenet), Concepcia (“Spanish Hour” by Ravel), etc.
