Introductory seventh chords
Seventh chords built from the seventh degree of natural major, harmonic major and harmonic minor are quite common. We remember that the 7th degree gravitates towards the 1st degree (tonic). Because of this gravitation, seventh chords built on the 7th degree are called introductory.
Consider the introductory seventh chords for each of the three frets.
Diminished introductory seventh chord
Consider harmonic major and minor. The introductory seventh chord in these modes is a diminished triad, to which a minor third is added on top. The result is: m.3, m.3, m.3. The interval between extreme sounds is a reduced seventh, which is why the chord is called a reduced introductory seventh chord .
Small introductory seventh chord
Consider the natural major. Here the introductory seventh chord is a diminished triad, to which a major third is added on top: m.3, m.3, b.3. The extreme sounds of this chord form a small seventh, which is why the chord is called small introductory .
The introductory seventh chords are designated as follows: VII 7 (built from the VII step, then the number 7, indicating the seventh).

Inversion of opening seventh chords
Introductory seventh chords, like dominant seventh chords, have three appeals. Everything here is by analogy with the dominant seventh chord, so we will not linger on this. We only note that both the introductory seventh chords themselves and their appeals are equally often used.
