Giuseppe Verdi Milan Symphony Orchestra (Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano Giuseppe Verdi) |

“There is a symphony in Milan, the level of which has been getting higher and higher year by year, so now it is a really big orchestra, which I personally put above the La Scala orchestra […] This orchestra is the Milan Symphony Orchestra. Giuseppe Verdi.

So unambiguously spoke about the creative path of the orchestra. Verdi authoritative music critic Paolo Isotta in the pages of the central newspaper “Corriere della Sera” in September this year.

The team of musicians, who were brought together in 1993 by Vladimir Delman, is now firmly established on the performing symphonic Olympus. His repertoire ranges from Bach to nineteenth century symphonic masterpieces and twentieth century composers. In the 2012-2013 season, the twentieth since the founding of the orchestra, there will be 38 symphony programs, where, along with recognized classics, lesser-known authors will be performed. Starting from the 2009-2010 season, a Chinese woman, Zhang Xian, has been conducting.

The orchestra’s home venue in Milan is the Auditorium Concert Hall. At the grand opening of the hall on October 6, 1999, the orchestra, then conducted by Riccardo Schaily, performed Mahler’s Symphony No. 2 “Resurrection”. According to its decoration, equipment and acoustic properties, the Auditorium is considered one of the best concert halls in the country.

The real jewel in the orchestra’s crown is the large symphony choir. From its inception in October 1998 until his death, it was led by Maestro Romano Gandolfi, a renowned choirmaster known for his work with the greatest conductors and opera houses in many countries of the world. Today, the collective employs about a hundred choristers who are capable of vocal and symphonic works in the range from baroque to the twentieth century. The current conductor-choirmaster is Erina Gambarini. Special mention deserves a separate choir created in 2001 – a mixed choir of boys and young men under the direction of Maria Teresa Tramontin. Last December, together with a symphony orchestra and a large symphony choir, young vocalists were involved in the production of Bizet’s Carmen as part of the celebrations on the occasion of the opening of the Royal Opera House of the Sultanate of Oman.

The orchestra and the Grand Choir are the pinnacle of a whole musical system – an organization called the Foundation of the Milan Symphony Orchestra and Symphony Chorus. Giuseppe Verdi. The Foundation was established in 2002 and aims to popularize vocal and choral art and musical culture in the country and abroad. This, in particular, in addition to the current concert activity, is intended to be facilitated by special projects, including the subscription program “Musical Crescendo” (10 concerts for children and their parents), an educational program for secondary school students, the cycle “Symphonic Baroque” (works by composers of the XVII -XVIII centuries, performed by a separate team under the direction of Ruben Yais), the cycle “Sunday Morning with the Orchestra. Verdi” (10 Sunday morning musical performances on the theme “Forgotten Names”, hosted by Giuseppe Grazioli).

In addition, with the Symphony Orchestra. Verdi has an amateur orchestral studio and a children’s and youth orchestra, who give concerts in Milan and go on tour around the country and abroad. Lectures on the topics of musical culture are regularly given in the Auditorium concert hall, thematic meetings are held, music courses are open for everyone of any age, including a special course for people who do not have a musical ear.

In the summer season of 2012 from July to August the orchestra gave 14 concerts. In 2013, a long-awaited, anniversary year for the orchestra, anniversary for the composer who gave the name to the creative team, tour concerts are planned in Germany, a big tour of the cities of Italy with Verdi’s Requiem, as well as a tour to China.
