In 2005, the Youth Orchestra of Armenia was created. Sergey Smbatyan, winner of a number of international competitions, became the artistic director and chief conductor of the orchestra. Thanks to hard work, purposeful and selfless work, in a short time the orchestra achieves high performance skills and receives the best reviews and reviews from famous musicians and critics of our time, collaborating with such eminent masters as Valery Gergiev, Krzysztof Penderetsky, Vladimir Spivakov, Grigory Zhislin, Maxim Vengerov, Denis Matsuev, Vadim Repin, Vahagn Papyan, Boris Berezovsky, Ekaterina Mechetina, Dmitry Berlinsky and others.

In 2008, for high professionalism, deep understanding and dissemination of modern musical trends, the President of Armenia awarded the orchestra the high title of “State”.

In pursuit of its main goal – to familiarize the younger generation with classical art, the orchestra constantly presents new concert programs that are highly appreciated by the musical community. The orchestra has performed in many world famous concert halls such as Opera Garnier (Paris), Konzerthaus Berlin, Dr. A.S. Anton Philipszaal (The Hague), the Great Hall of the Conservatory and the Tchaikovsky Concert Hall (Moscow), Palace of Fine Arts (Brussels) and others. The team also took part in various famous international festivals, including the Moscow Easter Festival, Young.Euro.Classic (Berlin), “Meetings of Friends” (Odessa), Cultural Summer North Hesse (Kassel), Young.Classic.Wratislavia (Wrocław).

Since 2007, the ensemble has been the official orchestra of the Aram Khachaturian International Competition, and since 2009 it has been a member of the European Federation of National Youth Orchestras (EFNYO).

Since 2010, on the initiative of the State Youth Orchestra of Armenia, a festival of Armenian composer art has been held. In 2011 the recording studio Sony DADC released the orchestra’s first CD Music is the answer. The album contains a recording of the performance of the State Youth Orchestra of Armenia in Berlin at the international festival Young.Euro.Classic August 14, 2010. The album incorporates works by Tchaikovsky, Shostakovich and Hayrapetyan.
