Giuseppe Sinopoli
He was the founder of the Bruno Madern Ensemble (1975), performed with the Berlin Symphony Orchestra (since 1979). He made his debut on the opera stage in 1978 (Venice, Aida). In 1980 he performed Verdi’s Attila at the Vienna Opera. In 1981 he staged Verdi’s Louise Miller (Hamburg), in 1983 he performed Manon Lescaut at Covent Garden. In 1985 he made his debut at the Bayreuth Festival (Tannhäuser). In the same year, he performed for the first time at the Metropolitan Opera (Tosca). In 1983-94 he was chief conductor of the New Philharmonic in London. Since 1990 he has been Principal Conductor of the Deutsche Oper Berlin. Since 1991 he has directed the Dresden State Chapel.
Prominent interpreter of Verdi, Puccini, works of contemporary composers. He performed “Parsifal” at the Bayreuth Festival in 1996, in the 1996/97 season he performed the opera “Wozzeck” by Berg at La Scala. Author of musical compositions. Among the recordings are “The Force of Destiny” by Verdi (soloists Plowright, Carreras, Bruzon, Burchuladze, Baltsa, Pons, Deutcshe Grammophon), “Madame Butterfly” (soloists Freni, Carreras, Deutcshe Grammophon).
